I don't like auto pad from screen edges myself. Adding keys for moving is a given though 👍
The skulls spawn when you go far enough in any direction and their amount increases the further you go. So they're a means to end the runs and prevent from going infinite. They also spawn in other possible spots you could have placed your previous bone.
I did think of auto discard but it does have some issues that made me not add such a mechanic. It couldn't be automatic if there are multiple bones in hand. It also tells the player there is a possible move if it doesn't happen.
got to a point where it was more tedious than challenging. what is the rhyme or reason to the skulls? can i prevent them from spreading to almost every spot? it just became about looking for the 1 allowable spot before new skulls would pop up. they shouldnt pop up on the new dominos of that round. It wouldn't let me place a lot of valid moves inside the structure as well. the 2|4 should be be able to rotate connect to the 2. needs a zoom feature too.
Skulls are there to make the runs actually end at some point. Without them one could go on forever. And they spawn more the further in any direction you go.
Yeah completely confused why some are crooked and cant have ANYTHING attached to them it seems like every one I place is now and I have no moves and am very confused if its a bug or something I don't understand.
Yup, if the bone rotation animation is still happening when you change to a different spot they get kinda jumbled and the bone might end up a bit crooked. I've actually already fixed this (and other found issues) and update will come tomorrow when the voting period ends for the game jam I made this for and updating the games is allowed again.
I still find the updating thing of gamejams especially for bugs dumb.
and after playing more it seems that it starts happening when playing slowly and the only way to get them to not be coroked was to try sliding to a different spot till they were correct.
Well yeah, it's kinda annoying when there are some irritating bugs that you can't fix. But I get the reasoning behind it, it'd be harder to control whether only bug fixes are done if updating at all was allowed. Not allowing at all puts everyone on the same line. Ludum Dare for example allows fixing critical game breaking bugs after the jam but seen several times where game has been patched with some minor or quality of life fixes, rarely even more content added.
But hey, at least the lockout duration here isn't that long, 24 hours more...
Sometimes I encounter the inability to place where I should be able to. The below never gave the option to bridge the 2 2's... only extend up from them.
Oh that's how those wrongly rotated bones happen! Didn't catch it initially as it works a bit different it seems on unity editor (where I obviously played the most) how it does on web build.
Sadly yes, seems like brute forcing the path calculation wasn't a great idea. I'll fix these and update as soon as the jam voting period ends (next friday).
I guess it's a practice period until then, that's when the real scores come out!
and I can't place dominoes sometimes cuz of odd angles.
a lot of bugs arise from the visuals of the dominoes being the same as their actual hitboxes :[ ignoring bugs tho, I'd say it's still pretty fun for being so simple.
Darn, that's not good. That's an out of memory error. I guess trying to brute force through all the possible paths wasn't that great of an idea. Especially doing it probably not in an too optimal way either. And the sad part is that I've done the exact same mistake before too... 😅 Can't update the game in the next 5 days (jam voting period) but will try to get this sorted out by then. Thanks for reporting it!
No worries :) I think it was maybe do;MIN(0) that might have also done the same thing?
Will still play during the next 5 days because I really want that top spot on the leaderboard. I will get 3 strikes before hitting anything excessive over a million.
Thanks! Funnily enough, I don't even know how to play dominos really. I think there was a domino minigame in RDR which I played a bit. I think the sideways placing is a bit different at least.
Yes, you can pan with right mouse button. The game tells it too but I guess you skipped through it. And you change your name by clicking it. There should be an indicator for it too but looks like I messed up something with it.

Hey there! My name is Ichit. I've done some QA for games like The Sims and Gears of War!
I played the game for an hour and wrote up a small report with some feedback.
Feel free to reach out to me if you want further testing on this product or any other products!
Feedback:
- I like the art style and general uniqueness of the game. I haven't played dominos before.
- The guy jumping around adds alot of character, but I found it distracting especially at the beginning.
- I am not sure how to avoid the pink skulls or why they pop up after a couple of plays
Suggestion:
- Would be nice when you are holding a bone near edge of screen if it auto pans towards the edge of the screen.
--> WASD might be a good choice as well.
- I feel like the name set should happen before you start / after you finish your round to reduce the amount of information at the beginning.
- Could do a thing where if player does not have any playable moves, the bone is auto discarded and player is given a strike.
Bugs:
- The garbage can still shows during "pick a bone" phase which may confuse users.
- Sometimes I seem to not crash when I place a bone on top of a pink skull.
- Sometimes I seem to crash when I place bone next to a skull, but not on top of the skull
- If I place the domino in a quick swiping motion from hand to field and place, it can be off center

It's a good game, but why can't I place domino here?
The double move doesn't allow connecting. Didn't even consider it as a possibility because how rarely that happens.

question, are you meant to not receive a bone when trashing your last domino?
So the last bone in hand? It should do the same thing as if you played it. What happens now if you do so?
just gives no bones, and returns all bones you placed to your deck
Playing the updated version. I am unsure why I was not allowed to place the below:

Looks like it’s not a 2 wide gap.
A bug if you place to fast they become crooked and if they are you cant place a double connection to them...
Yeah completely confused why some are crooked and cant have ANYTHING attached to them it seems like every one I place is now and I have no moves and am very confused if its a bug or something I don't understand.

I am like why is this game so familiar feeling then look at the games you made and both the games i was getting vibes from you made.
Your games are so fun happy to see a new one.
Bit of a shock that you made all those games I liked in such different themes.
oved the creativity and the smooth flow of your game. The sounds fit perfectly. Nice job! If you have time, check out our game Loop Cuisine
Sometimes I encounter the inability to place where I should be able to. The below never gave the option to bridge the 2 2's... only extend up from them.

It's because the right one is tilted like that, which is a bug.
Oh, and also:
super easy to softlock a run like this
apparently also an easy way to crash runs too :/

This is considered a loop? weird
and I can't place dominoes sometimes cuz of odd angles.

Eh, not for me. Not a bad game though.
Just hit a crash :(
I had just dropped the 2/2 domino, and the loop didn't start. Maybe the number got to big.

YO dude! I like this game. It's just dominos but better. I'm also currently 2nd place! ;D

Not anymore! >:D
:O
Interesting stuff. Is there a way to zoom out or pan the board? It got to a point where I couldn't see what I was really doing:
Also didn't see where a name could be entered for the leaderboard.
Yes, you can pan with right mouse button. The game tells it too but I guess you skipped through it. And you change your name by clicking it. There should be an indicator for it too but looks like I messed up something with it.
Thanks I see that tooltip now.
