can you have a setting that makes the game faster because in the late game battles, it's really laggy

Just some log book feedback for the unlocking. Once unlocked, put the 'Select' button on the right hand page with the crew member, or inverse the order so the crew member is on the right. I know, hard call, just right now I see the ability to select a crew member, but it is showing the page of the incorrect crew member. I see 'Tink' on the right hand side, but the select on the left is for Bard.

Can you post a pic of how it looks for you? That doesn't sound right...

It should be like this:

Yeah, something wrong there with page changes. Each crew member is supposed to start on left left page. The page before those is only supposed to be there as a filler if the number of pages prior wasn't even. Looks like the page before the filler page is somehow messing up the filler page positioning and making it take more than a page.

So basically, one time I shot at an iceberg with a 7, and it said it is 50% loosened. But when I shot it again with a 7, the iceberg sank.

Maybe I'm just delusional, but I just wanna ask u abt this

Edit: Also, why is Jake riding a crocodile after I had shot him? Just curious

Should have rammed the iceberg... it's a dice roll.

So I'm guessing you had 7 dice. The second time you rolled a seven should have indeed brought you to 100% and not over. Are you sure it was a 7 too?

He is riding a crocodile because he doesn't have a ship anymore... 🤷‍♀️

Why is this random text here. I just started a new run, don't have any trinkets

i bought the game on steam and the music gets distorted when i play the game but when i leave it its fine? and my game crashed when i fought an angel too.. its just very laggy at times but im happy to support the development on this game :P i'll just play the web version for now

Thanks! The Steam version is basically the same just wrapped in a lightweight browser app. The only difference really is how the music and sounds are played since they didn't work straight out of the box so they're played from the actual wrapper app side. I guess there must be something wrong there if the musics gets distorted (probably due those pitch shifts) and must be the source of the lag if the web version is running fine for you. I'll look more into it.

What is that random s on the left near the bottom

Looks like it’s your previous unlock notification. But why it’s still partly visible I do not know.

why is the swab button there?

My guess would be it's leftovers from a previous event where you had to choose a crew member for something. No clue why it would still be there at this point though. How long was it there or did it appear after you were browsing the log book?

Random question. Why is the game called coup ahoo

(1 edit)

Good question! So the original version of the game was made for js13k, a game jam where you make a game that must fit completely in 13 kilobytes (ie. like 1% of a floppy disk). It lasts for a month and I'm pretty sure coming up with the name was one of that last things I did even though the game was almost 99% there after the first week. I was and had been browsing a lot of different wikipedia articles and lists of nautical/pirate word definitions and those two were some of that just sounded fun to me. Especially together as they kinda rhyme. So not much more reason behind it than that.

Hello!

I feel like i missed something... the latest patch is 1.3.3, but I can't see the 1.3.2.

Is that an error, or am I just not bright enough?

I also like this game so much that it feels weird to me that it is so not well-known. I think it really does not receive the credits it is due

1.3.2 was a smaller patch just fixing an issue on 1.3.1 (added explanation on its devlog).

And thanks! Sure it would be nice to have a wider audience but I'm not much of a marketing person. I just like making games.

The map vendor is now almost a useless event because now he can only sell 2 different maps. Can you make it like how it was in an earlier patch because it's now impossible to pick out the map you want from map vendor.

Will do. This wasn't an intentional change...

when I shot at an iceberg, all my rolls were the same and my scout wans't working

Seems like an RNG seeding issue. I'll look into it...

One note about the log book. Some events, like divine battles, you get the log entry added but I am not seeing the button [LT] to read the entry until after I have left the encounter, but that is not a a big issue.

The other issue I have encountered is I have gotten the key before, but I sometimes have no cage in my cabin:

Yup, can't enter the cabin in the middle of events. The cage isn't there because you have the key. But I guess you haven't unlocked the potential contents of the cage yet...

Thanks for the clarification on log entries and being in the middle.
I am not sure if I have had the ability to unlock the cage.. I will explore that  :)

What is that on the left. I don't know if its a bug or intended, but my OCD is killing me. can you please patch this

What do you mean?

(1 edit)

The S on the left

WTF

Is that after a reset?

no

i just have a oni and boy with a upgraded bard

hmm i can still see the enemy ship

bruh this happened too

WHERE IS THE DIPLOMAT?????

It happened to me too in two cases

Hey look! My ship is called the SOS! Frog game accepted it as a valid word also despite it being an abbreviation for something...

Can you make it so that you have an option to continue in a Divine Being battle in the epilogue? It's really frustrating to fight one even if they have awful abilities

when you swap crew members during the royal babysitter challenge and you still have some princes, the princes won't appear on the other ship

Also the crew swap thing is almost useless if they are offering an awful crew for your good crew members. It offers no compensation whatsoever if you have a divine/underworld being and they offer you something like a normal crew member just upgraded? How does that even help? I feel like swinger ship should scale their crew to match the effectiveness of your crew.

This is not a complaint but one how I think events where you can't interact should have another event after. You did a good job doing it for the TMN ship. I feel like there should be a compensation event if the Furry Game is impossible with your current cargo values or always generate it with a prize that you can reach(though that feels a little OP so maybe option 1), also I feel like the Spice Trader is useless if you can't trade with him. I have forfeited way too many runs because I saw him at the start with no spice

For the math game, it's difficult. Don't think an algorithm for solving whether something is possible or not is too simple. And for spice trader I disagree. He is the biggest reason to actually keep spice on you at all times. And at least one is offered after every battle. So it's kinda on you if you don't have any.

My friend P3guins got a frog version of prince when he wished for frog at the genie ship. Does that mean there's a frog king?

No there isn't. You just get better rewards for bringing him to the king

I also realize that you can't wish for Frate, Bonesun, Boner, or Carpup because the game will give you Carp, Frat, or Bone instead. I like the names you gave them and don't want to change them, so maybe you can add a button for the genie ship to confirm your wish instead of immediately granting it with the trigger word

I found a glitch in this game. When you have the prince, the map vendor can sell you a map leading to the king ship. However, prince acts like a crew member that can be skeletonized so he can also be sacrificed with Trinketinator. Therefore, when you meet the king, the game either softlocks when he tries to take the prince or he tries to take the prince, except he isn't there. I think the best way to fix this is to not allow the map vendor sell a map leading to the king to prevent any further issues like this.

hmm I can still see the plating ship (btw I didn't take this screen shot when it was still moving)

my birds seemed to have disappeared

Any clue at which point they disappeared?

when i obtained the figure head from a ship, the birds stayed with the other ship

I have the same issue the last guy does while playing on computer. This was on the console

Also when i tried to play on mobile after the patch, the screen is just black

Super weird. Does it now happen every time (when an log entry would unlock). What does the log book show? Cause by the looks of it the save has somehow gotten messed up...

It got softlocked when i tried to look at the log book too

Should be fixed now! Basically there was a save data mismatch between 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 and it should now succeed at importing the previous save with only minimal loss of data. All the unlocks at least should be there.

sometimes in battle or when looting the UI doesn't show and I can't move on

(2 edits)

Is it supposed to be your turn to shoot or what? Any rhyme or reason how/when it happens? If it happens again, could you check your browser console (F12 on Chrome and Firefox at least) for errors?

I guess it isn't either turn (yet) as neither guy has their leg on the cannon... 🤔

I don't know but nothing happened when I clicked where the buttons were supposed to be or on my cargo nothing happened. It happens for every encounter besides the first battle, and whenever I loot cargo. Unfortunately I cannot check my browser console since I'm on my school Chromebook and dev tools are disabled, but I will check how it is on my personal laptop when I get home

(1 edit)

It's working now for some reason, but I'll still check how it is on my own laptop

i still can't see the letters

(1 edit)

The message disappears when you hover on the letters. Still not optimal, especially on mobile I guess. Gotta come up with something better... 🤔

I guess this would be at least better for now

How does the world generation works in this game? I just got a weird ocurrence where after i went for a new run, i got everything from the previous run. Same dice, same events, there were some differences in text but everything was identical up untill the TMNT event, after which i got a tailor ship instead of Queen Rosa

So yes, the latest patch I added in seeded rng though at least yet you can't change the seed yourself. How did you restart the run? I guess somehow it got stuck using the same seed...

(1 edit)

Since i was playing on my phone, i had to reload the page each time. And it happened 3 more times now. Even closing and opening google app didn't help

Oh now I think what is happening. So when you get the key, it saves the seed for the next run. If you just refresh after that it doesn't reset the seed at that point. So if you're stuck in a limbo like that now, you can hit restart on options menu right after the page reload. Will fix this on the next patch too. Obviously it doesn't need to save the seed after it's been used.

I found a bug where when pet (furfolk variant of mate) triggers his ability, bard will jump together with him (pet had the "better at learning new things" perk if that helps)

Might not be a bug. Not sure if I made bard "trigger hop" with other crew member triggers as he is technically helping...

Love the update! The log book makes understanding encounters way faster.

However I got a gold cargo, and the on my next run started ONLY with it, i didn't get to roll new cargo. Is that a bug?

Also, a small and incomplete list of events that are sometimes fully non useful (and doesn't give you another encounter):

    - Seafolk ship (pretty sure)

    - Fur folk is occasionally impossible (I checked)

    - Plating ship (if you have only spice)

    - Divine battles (can be useful but 95% of the time should skip)

    - Crew swap (when you have 1 crew member and the tradable is the same)

    - Genie (if you already have the "wish")

    - Spice trade (when you don't have spice)

I probably have missed some. Hope that helps, and confirming the update is REALLY good.

EDIT-Removed seafolk ship, they do give you an extra encounter.

Yup, not adding normal starter dice when gold ones are there is indeed a bug. Only happens when you enter cabin while having them. Fix coming later today...

Woah! A huge update- you can enter the ship and look at the log?? Such an improvement, makes the game more strategy based! 😊

IT ADDS SO MUCH TO THE PLOT AND EXPLAINS EVERYTHING! I love it!

How do you get the gold dice in this game? I've only seen one of my friends get it and I don't know how

They're only included in the loot pool on "bad luck" starts ie. With cargo roll of less than 6 total.

A quick question how do you get these birds?

Also I'm pretty sure my friends told me(Needs verification) that these birds only deal 2 damage

(1 edit)

Only through wishing. And yes, only difference on em is the double damage.

What's the trigger word for it? I think one of my friends said it was "bird"

I know this was in an older patch but this issue with wishing for a divine/underworld crew member still isn't fixed and causes the game to crash. I sure hope this is fixed soon

I mean when your ship is full of crew

Remember who you tried to wish for in this case?

This was in an older patch. I spelled out "Murmur", the genie granted me the wish, though he didn't appear since divine and underworld beings can appear in any slot even if their roles aren't in that slot(Such as Camael always being a carpenter but he can stand behind your cargo despite Carp standing on top of it). This causes it to freeze because you have too many crew members similar to my friend P3guins case where the last 13th fleet ship had too many crew members due to the crew picking event where the one you didn't pick appeared on the next ship. The game will just freeze after since the guy with the crown always has a full crew. I think the best option would be to let you sacrifice a chosen crew member to welcome the wished crew member on board

Love the new update! The log book is great for quality of life and gives helpful tips on stuff that new players seemed to be confused about.

Despite the patch notes claiming there isn't much new content (there's a typo in that sentence in the actual patch notes btw), the "starting with initial stuff" bonus mechanic is a really good way to get more adaptability in the early game.

Also, the new dice - great mechanic and also really overpowered if you can find three or more, but only finding one and dying soon after means every new start is just worse. Hopefully you can find more after the first run, or it resets somehow upon defeating the last guy.  (Edit: it does reset, so that's good)

Edit: When I closed the page with a single starting dice and opened a new one, the starting dice was still there but I was able to hit the "play" and "roll" options to get three dice. Weird, and probably unintended: upon reloading and opening the tab again, the game restarted with a wiped save.

I know this wasn't in the most recent patch, but the quicker fishing is super nice. Also, I've noticed the fished up  dice have fish icons on them -  What if there was some special interaction while having one of those dice and finding the TMNT ship?

Anyways, onto the bugs!

When finding the switch crewmates event while having Handy, when they moved over to the other ship they just flew up and disappeared (is that normal?), and I kept their parrot and it continued to work as normal. Also, when getting other parrots in addition to Handy, when Handy is stunned all of the parrots are stunned.

Edit: It seems like the parrots remain: You can do the same trick to get Handy's parrot in addition to another crewmates of your choosing at the beginning of a run. (GAME BREAKING BUG: This is repeatable for infinite birds)

Edit: Cabin exiting and entering deletes the text for the math game, and also resets the "efficient at fishing" guy for potentially infinite cargo as well

I put "Nakir" as a word for the genie, and the game crashed, even though I know names of special crew members should work. (Speaking of which, will putting words in such as "Beppo" or "key" do anything?)

Finally, the flavor text frog's message of "bonus towards using thematic words" goes off screen sometimes.

That's all, I'm going to try to unlock more crew members and see if I encounter any more bugs. Once again, great update!

P.S. Royal Babysitter Challenge Mode is crazy 🤣

(And thanks for putting me in the credits!)

The golden dice are supposed to be on top of the normal two starter dice, not replacing them. If you visit the cabin when you start with them, you seem to not be able to add normal starter dice which is a bug.

Yes, there is an interaction with fished up cargo & turts 😉 And yup, you can wish for a key.

Good finds on the infinite birds & fishing. I'll patch a fix for those later today (and some of the not so critical issues too)...

Haven't been able to repro the divine wish crash yet so if you have any more details, that'd be nice. Most likely some specific combination of existing crew + wished one.

Love this game!

I was wondering if you could make a version with no animation, background, camera wobbling... I know it would be less good, but that way it would work on more devices (thinking Kindle Paperwhite there). I have tried after painfully extracting the html code from itch.io but couldn't find what makes what.

It would take time, so if you can't it's not much of a big deal.

Thanks for making this awesome game!

It's gonna be a bit tough. Quite a lot of the animations are so deeply baked into the core of the game. But could add options for removing some easy stuff like bg, clouds etc which would already help some I think. I'll see what I can do. Not probably going to happen on the next patch (coming maybe later today or at least in few days time) yet though.

(2 edits)

Thank you for taking time for this!

The main issues are the camera wobbling/zoom in and out (which makes it hard to select the right cargo), and the background/animation (removing them could achieve better performance).

I also thought that an option to rotate the game window might be useful, as the camera zoom would probably be lessened (since the display would be full screen, so bigger), but that might require too deep modifications to be easily done.

As for feedback, I feel like the obscure game mechanics add replayability and complexity. However I dislike the "non-useful" encounters that simply makes you skip to the next fight (i.e. meeting the seafolk ship without having met the requirements...). Otherwise pretty much all aspects of this game are wonderful, the dices and the number 13 are extremely well incorporated in the game theme and mechanics...

Thanks again!

The "blank" events do not actually count and there will be another event afterwards before the next combat one. Unless of course I've missed some of them...

I was doing so good in my run till this happened
